Harrower was a pioneering endocrinologist and entrepreneur that opened a clinic in Glendale in 1920.  It was the largest business in the city for many years.  In 1926 the early conservation and tree preservation society, The American Green Cross, was formed here, yet disbanded three years later.  In 1964, George Lincoln Rockwell chose Glendale to be the West Coast headquarters of the American Nazi Party. Its offices were open downtown, on Colorado Street, until the early 1980s.

In 1977 and 1978 the case of the Hillside Strangler began when ten murdered women were found in and around Glendale.  The killings were at the hands of Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono, the latter of whom resided at 703 East Colorado Street, which is where most of the murders were.
